IPL: Day 3 – “Quantum Leap”

I have to confess, there is nothing more satisfying than either standing up in front of or sitting with a group of people and busting out some old school TV references like Quantum Leap and Sliders to help describe a project that you are working on.

Today’s meetings with Louie Ghiz, an investment analyst from Telefilm, helped clarify how we should approach applying for funding. It was also cool to see that he was into some suggestions for funding approaches for digital media projects as well. Our current work on the Technosaurs project really helped shape my discussion with Louie.

Our meeting with Ravi from Lang Michner LLP was very productive and he answered many questions related to our co-pro agreements, as well as specific IP and defamation issues that we may be facing because of the sensitive nature of the content. He also provided us with the location of the Canadian trademarks database*

My sincerest apologies to the rest of the mentors but the coolest meeting for me was the meeting with Yoshio Arima of EA and Dave Kretz of the BNMI. It never hurts to have a meeting to discuss games like the Godfather and one of my all time favorites Metal Gear Solid as examples of how to make a immersive game engaging by allowing the user the greatest amount of flexibility which is one of the many goals for Breach of Contract.

All told, it’s been a great day and Jen and I are still working away on our high level project plan and final pitch for tomorrow.

*Disclaimer: This is not the be all and end all of Trademark searches but it will give you a sense of what is out there related to your company or project name.
