IPL: Day 4 – Final Pitch

All of the groups re-pitched today and it was pretty amazing to see the improvement in the quality of the pitches.

Jen and I drew a lot of praise for being “eloquent”, “concise” and “respectful”….I believe someone used the word “impressive” as well….which was nice!

We really focused on getting out our messages in a clear and concise way by moving through the pitch as follows:

1) We started off with quick introductions. We tried to make our intro’s brief but the mentors said that we probably should have given a bit of a synopsis of the company backgrounds (i.e. why are the 2 companies interested in making this project?)

2) We then presented “the ask” which was a request for preliminary stage marketing and research funding from Telefilm as well as other interested parties.

3) Jen then followed with the content direction by engaging the audience into asking themselves “what do we really know about treaty rights and aboriginal issues”

4) I followed by contextualizing the game through the story of the killing of Dudley George. I demonstrated how this story could be used in a game (sequences and scenarios) and walked the audience through the time shifting experience and engagement of ancestral characters.

Overall it went really well and Jen and I would like to take the time to thank Susan Kennard, Tahira Baulackey and Juan Delgado for all their work in organizing the workshops and events. It was a very engaging, productive and, believe it or not, relaxing despite all the work.

All of the mentors (as I’ve mentioned in my other posts) were exceptional as well. They gave us some really valuable information that will help us hit the ground running on our projects when we get back to our day jobs.

Thanks to all!
